Santa Ynez with Lauren
0I try to plan every shoot as much as I can, but sometimes things like location and weather are out of my control. So when things worked out on my shoot with Lauren, I couldn’t be any happier with the results. We had great weather and found a beautiful ranch to shoot at. Word of advice when location scouting, always ask for permission first before shooting on private property. From my experience, people are a lot more willing to work with you when you’re honest and upfront with them. Enjoy!

Who Inspires Me… Craig McDean
0During a recent shopping outing with the girlfriend, we stopped by Anthropologie where I found a book titled Another Portrait Book which was a collection of portraits from various photographers. The photos that stuck out the most to me were all shot by Craig McDean who is a renowned fashion and portrait photographer currently based in New York.

His work is beautiful and something to strive for. If you’re interested to see more of his work, go HERE.
2011 Color of the Year
0Given that it is the first day of 2011, its time to check in with Pantone to see what the new color of the year is…
Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.

Test Shoot on the Island
0I did a fashion test shoot several weekends ago with a local fashion designer on Treasure Island. It was a beautiful day to shoot and we find a nice spot where we could see the San Francisco skyline. I used a SB900 with an umbrella to fill in some of the shadows created by the sun.

Diptych with Soonka
0It’s been awhile since I’ve posted pictures and I have been quite busy for the past couple of weeks so I should have plenty to post soon. I did a shoot this past weekend with Soonka who was a trooper shooting in a cold warehouse while just getting better from being ill. I was trying to go for an edgy designer jeans style ad for this shoot with harsher light and an edgy location.
I’ve really enjoyed creating diptych photos lately and have made a bigger effort to ensure I have the shots I want to create a diptych photo. What is diptych?
A diptych is a photograph that uses two different or identical images side by side to form one single artistic statement.
Expect to see more diptych style photos from me in the future.

N’Damus Update
0I was very excited this morning to find out that the pictures taken for N’Damus back in November made it into the Fashion website Highsnobette! I feel a great sense of satisfaction knowing that the work that was involved in producing that shoot is being paid off and being published.

Josephine Resort
0I teamed up with an aspiring fashion designer to do a shoot of some of her pieces a couple weekends ago. I’m always amazed by people that can design clothes from scratch. I don’t even know how to sew on a button…
We got a great team together for this shoot and it always makes life easier when there are multiple hands and eyes helping to make sure we get the right shot. It was really cold that morning and much credit is given to the model to be able to compose herself and strike a pose even when every part of her wants to shiver.

Bridal Fashion Show
0I attended the Modern Luxury Weddings Bridal Event at the Ritz Carlton this past weekend and took advantage of a fashion show going on that day. They had some well known brands such as Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier.

2010 Color of the Year
0As part of my education process towards becoming a fashion photographer, I’ve been trying to pay more attention to fashion trends. I’ve always known that the fashion industry revolved around a specific color every year. What I didn’t know was that a color company, Pantone, was the ones making the decision of what that color would be. I had always thought a council of fashion legends sat around a table and discussed what color to pick for every year. Pantone, regarded as the expert in colors, has selected Turquoise as the color of the year for 2010.
